Classroom Management - Classroom Learning Platform that improves engagement and retention

Classroom Management is one of the key challenges that faces schools today and this includes improving student engagement and increasing retention levels. This means if the students are engaged then they are more likely to learn and if the learning can be active because they have participated then research shows that retention levels are significantly higher which leads on to the all important higher grades in exams.

Most learners become more engaged if they are able to interact with the material, if they can ask questions and take an active part in the learning.

With the rapid rise in Social Media such as Twitter and the ubiquitous nature of mobile applications learners are becoming used to interacting with others through the use of technology.

A number of schools have been experimenting with using Twitter in the classroom in order to engage with the students in a familiar environment. Many of the reported benefits included increased engagement, increased participation, concise writing due to the need to keep within the 140 character limit, learning about digital citizenship and social literacy.

However, there are downsides to using Twitter in the classroom as part of improving classroom management and they include security, ability to capture the learning, working with large numbers of students and the inability to handle a wide range of digital media such as video, documents, spreadsheets, presentations etc.

Classroom Management - New Classroom learning platform

E4A has developed in new class/group based learning platform called ClassBubbles to improve classroom management which can deliver any content and forces the learning to be active by introducing tasks to build on the content presented. ClassBubbles combines the display of content found in presentation software, a task pane needed to make the learning active and so increase retention rates and Twitter like instant messaging technology to allow the learners and students to respond back in a technology that they are comfortable with.

ClassBubbles - Classroom learning platformClassbubbles addresses the issues of using Twitter in the classroom as any digital media can be displayed in the presentation pane, the students can respond back with any digital media, using trending and charting technology patterns in the responses can be identified and archiving means the learning can be captured, summarised and be easily made available to the participants after the event. As each event is separate and controllable by the teacher or facilitator security is not a problem and therefore can be used by learners of all ages.

ClassBubbles addresses the need to improve classroom management by providing a technology that changes the role of the teacher to that of facilitator where the focus is on helping the students internalise the learning as the system displays the content and strongly encourages interaction which leads to active learning and higher retention.
